In no particular order, here are a list of things that have killed Shaw in the past 24 hours:
- A giant soldier*;
- A giant bear;
- A giant cliff with giant steps;
- A giant.
Shaw wandered the Southern cliffs, encountered some Rat Men, disposed of them with relative ease. While exploring this fairly empty portion of the world, she found some rainbow rocks. “These will make nice additions to my koi pond,” she sighed, “ if I ever get out of this cursed place.”
Some of you might remember the mention of a battle in yesterday’s update; turns out, it was more of a skirmish, between regular soldiers and regular rat men. Nothing that our Shaw couldn’t handle. Her prize? Learning that killing a group of enemies refills a health potion; good to know.
Shaw almost defeated a giant roaming the plains; he was down to his last small sliver of health. In the interest of full transparency, the summoned spectral wolves almost defeated the giant. Shaw’s contributions consisted of a few quick stabs to the legs before repeatedly running away like a coward.
Shaw met some dude named Kenneth Branagh or who looked like Kenneth Branagh or whose name was similar; she forgets which it was. In any case, he requested that she reclaim his fort for him. Shaw tentatively agreed while thinking to herself: “Yeah, don’t hold your breath buddy.”
In a murky wood, Shaw spotted a map column. A bear was standing nearby, scratching at a tree, possibly looking for honey? Despite his Winnie The Pooh-like demeanor, he was not pleased with Shaw’s intrusion, and proceeded to give chase. Sir Mix-a-Lot rode swiftly, but they barely (bear-ly?) escaped with their lives. The only thing that saved them was an invisible barrier (bear-rier?) between the woods and the plains that their ursine pursuer was seemingly unable or unwilling to cross.
While exchanging runes for another tiny sliver of extra health, Shaw pondered the economical foundations of the Lands Between. “How is it,” she wondered to herself aloud, “that the same currency used to trade with merchants can also be used in exchange for improving one’s self. Who is being paid? Furthermore, in a world where nearly every fiend comes back to life, yielding more monetary rewards every time they are killed anew, wouldn’t this flood the market and collapse the entire economic underpinnings of the Lands Between?”
After wandering the Lands Between for over 4 hours, Shaw is beginning to wonder where all the cool stuff can be found: weapons, armor, trinkets, and whatnot. Things that will make the experience of fighting larger monsters, maybe a little less miserable. She fears that anything that could help her is currently locked behind foes that she has not yet the skill or dexterity to overcome.
At this point, her greatest fear is running out of new things to do, so that she can keep composing these updates.
*Shaw went back to fight him, thinking her acquired experience would lead to an easier fight. HA!
Summary:
In which Shaw starts to despair at ever finding cool shit and questions the foundational stability of the Lands Between’s economic system.
